What did the Romans wear?
Nearly all of the Roman clothing was made without being sewn. The men and women in Pompeii would wear loose-fitting robes, which was made out of long strips of cloth. These pieces of cloth got draped around their bodies and they would be kept in place with pins, brooches or belts. Most of the women would wear a few layers; this was a thin shift, a 'tunica', a long sleeveless dress which was called a 'stola' and a thick cloak called a 'palla. The men of Rome would wear a tunic up to their knees, a columbium', with a semi-circular cloak, a 'toga', over the top.
The clothes that you wore in roman told everyone who you were:
The were lots of people from different races and different cultures that lived in lands that were ruled by Romans, Who wore many different types of clothing. For example the Egypt's wore short linen kilts and wigs, Celtic women who were from northern Europe would wear long woolen shawls, woven in brightly colored checks. Celtic men would war trousers which was a lot more basic than what the women would wear.
What the different Romans wore:

>Government leaders (senators) would were togas but with a purple strip on it
>The richer men and the richer women wore robes which were made out of smooth good quality wool or silk
